HEAD NURSE – LABOR ROOM
Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Head Nurse – Labor Room to lead and manage nursing operations within the labor and delivery unit. The ideal candidate will ensure safe, high-quality maternal and newborn care, oversee nursing staff, maintain clinical standards, and coordinate effectively with obstetricians and healthcare teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise nursing staff in the labor and delivery unit
- Ensure safe and effective care for mothers and newborns during labor, delivery, and postnatal stages
- Monitor patient conditions and ensure timely medical interventions
- Coordinate with obstetricians, anesthetists, pediatricians, and support staff
- Develop duty rosters, manage staffing levels, and ensure shift coverage
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, clinical protocols, and infection control standards
- Oversee documentation, patient records, and nursing reports
- Manage labor room equipment, supplies, and medication inventory
- Handle emergency situations and critical cases effectively
- Mentor, train, and evaluate nursing staff performance
- Participate in audits, quality improvement initiatives, and accreditation processes
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSc Nursing mandatory)
- Valid MOH / DHA / HAAD nursing license
- 5–8 years of nursing experience, with at least 2–3 years in a labor room leadership role
- Strong knowledge of obstetric nursing, labor room protocols, and neonatal care
- Proven leadership and team management skills
- Excellent communication, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to work in shifts and handle high-pressure situations
Preferred Skills
- Experience in UAE maternity hospitals or healthcare facilities
- Certification in Midwifery, BLS, ACLS, and NRP
- Familiarity with EMR systems and hospital accreditation standards (JCI, CBAHI)
- Multilingual skills (English mandatory; Arabic an advantage)
- Strong patient-care ethics and attention to detail
