Aviation SMS Manager

Job Description

We are seeking a highly experienced Aviation SMS (Safety Management System) Manager to oversee the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of our organization’s aviation safety management framework. The ideal candidate will ensure compliance with ICAO, GCAA, and international safety regulations, promoting a proactive safety culture across all aviation operations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop, implement, and maintain the company’s Safety Management System (SMS) in accordance with regulatory and organizational requirements.
• Monitor and evaluate safety performance metrics and ensure alignment with ICAO Annex 19 and GCAA CAR regulations.
• Conduct safety audits, risk assessments, and investigations of incidents or hazards.
• Lead and facilitate safety meetings, training sessions, and workshops for staff and management.
• Ensure accurate documentation, reporting, and follow-up of all safety-related occurrences.
• Collaborate with operational departments to enhance safety awareness and implement risk mitigation measures.
• Maintain effective communication with regulatory authorities, partners, and internal teams on safety issues.
• Continuously assess the effectiveness of SMS policies and recommend improvements.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Aviation Management, Safety, Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum 5–8 years of experience in aviation safety management, preferably within airlines, MRO, or airport operations.
• Strong understanding of ICAO Annex 19, GCAA CAR Part X, and EASA safety requirements.
• Proven experience in SMS implementation, safety audits, and risk management.
• Excellent analytical, leadership, and communication skills.
• Proficiency in safety reporting and data analysis tools.

Preferred Certifications:

• ICAO Safety Management Systems Certification
• Aviation Safety Officer / Auditor certification
• NEBOSH or equivalent occupational safety qualification
