Job Description
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Fiber Optic Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the end-to-end installation of Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) services at customer premises. This role requires a strong technical aptitude, excellent problem-solving skills, and a commitment to providing outstanding customer service.
Key Responsibilities:
Installation and Termination: Install, route, and terminate fiber optic cables from the network distribution point to the customer’s home (drop cable).
Equipment Configuration: Install and configure Optical Network Terminals (ONT) and Wi-Fi routers, ensuring proper functionality and secure network setup.
Service Activation: Set up internet services for customers, including configuring router settings such as SSID, password, DHCP, and other relevant parameters.
Fiber Splicing and Testing: Perform fusion splicing to join fibers as needed, ensuring low loss and high performance. Conduct light-level testing using an optical power meter to verify signal strength and troubleshoot any issues.
Quality Assurance: Check signal strength and perform necessary adjustments or rectifications to resolve poor connections and ensure optimal service quality.
Troubleshooting and Maintenance: Diagnose and resolve technical issues related to fiber optic connections, equipment, and customer-side network problems.
Documentation and Reporting: Maintain detailed and accurate records of all installations, service calls, and fault-handling activities. Report complex issues or faults to the backend support or Network Operations Center (NOC).
Customer Education: Provide clear and concise education to customers on how to use their new services and equipment, including basic troubleshooting steps.
Tool and Safety Management: Ensure all tools and equipment, including fusion splicers and optical power meters, are well-maintained and used safely during all site visits. Adhere to all company safety protocols and procedures.
Qualifications:
Proven experience in installing, terminating, and splicing fiber optic cables.
Proficiency in using fiber optic tools, including fusion splicers and optical power meters.
Strong knowledge of Wi-Fi router configurations and home networking principles.
Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues efficiently.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on customer satisfaction.
Attention to detail and a commitment to quality workmanship.
Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
